MERIT Brow 1980 is a brow pomade for people who want their brows to look fuller without looking drawn on. It combines soft mineral colour with a hold that stays put all day, and the tapered brush does most of the thinking for you.

What it actually does

• Grooms and shapes in one pass. MERIT positions it as the step that sets brows where you want them while keeping the result bold but believable.
• Holds without going crunchy. The mineral-based formula is built for flexible wear across the day — the brand's claim is that it resists smudging and flaking.
• Conditions the hairs it coats. Vitamin B5 is in the formula to look after brow hairs and help strengthen them, so this isn't purely a colour product.

How to use

1. Start at the inner brow with the brush angled along the direction your hair grows.
2. Work outwards in short upward strokes, coating hairs rather than filling the skin underneath.

4. Build a second light pass only where the brow looks thin. Let it set before touching.

Is this a pencil, a gel or a pomade?

Will it flake off during the day?

MERIT's claim for this formula is all-day flexible hold that doesn't smudge or shed flakes. Apply it to clean, dry brows — oils or a heavy cream underneath are the usual reason any brow product lifts early.

Does it do anything for brow health?

There's vitamin B5 in the formula, which the brand includes to condition and strengthen the hairs. Treat that as a nice side effect of daily wear, not a growth treatment.
