The INKEY List Excess Oil Solution is a 20% niacinamide serum — the highest niacinamide level in the brand's line-up — created with dermatologists for skin that runs oily across the whole face, not just the T-zone. It is light and slips in without that tacky film some oil-control serums leave behind.
What it actually does
- Brings oil back under control. At 20% niacinamide, the brand's claim is reduced oil production over the course of the day.
- Makes large pores look smaller. The INKEY List describes a visible tightening effect on the appearance of enlarged pores.
- Refines rough, uneven texture that often comes with persistently oily skin.
- Zinc PCA tackles sebum build-up, working alongside the niacinamide rather than duplicating it.
- Squalane is there to look after the barrier, so an oil-focused formula does not leave skin stripped.
- Non-sticky and lightweight, which matters when you are layering a moisturiser and SPF on top in the heat.
How to use
- Morning, evening or both. It fits either routine.
- Cleanse, then hydrate — the brand's sequence puts Hyaluronic Acid Serum before this step.
- Use a pea-sized amount and massage it over your face, then down the neck.
- Then your moisturiser.
- Finish mornings with SPF as the final layer.
Pairing note: the brand advises against applying this and a vitamin C product at the same time. Alternate them — use one on some mornings and the other on the rest.
Is it right for you?
Yes, if your skin is
- Oily across the whole face, not only the nose and forehead
- Showing visibly enlarged pores
- Rough or uneven in texture because of that oil
- Happier with thin, fast-absorbing layers
Think twice if you
- Have combination skin or shine limited to the T-zone — the brand suggests its 10% Niacinamide Serum for that
- Have no active breakouts and only want a gentle maintenance serum
- Rely on a daily vitamin C serum you do not want to alternate around
Questions
Is 20% niacinamide too much for me?
It is framed as a specialist strength for all-over oiliness and the concerns that come with it. If your oil is confined to the T-zone, or you do not have active acne, the brand points to its 10% version.
Can I layer it with vitamin C?
Not in the same application. The INKEY List recommends using them on alternate days instead.
What else is in it besides niacinamide?
Zinc PCA, which the brand says works on sebum build-up, plus squalane to help look after the skin barrier.
