Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner is a nightly swipe-on exfoliant for skin that looks dull or feels rough. Glycolic acid gently lifts away dead surface cells while Tasmanian pepperberry derivative, ginseng root and aloe vera are there to keep the formula comfortable.

What it actually does

• Exfoliates the surface daily. A 7% concentration of glycolic acid — an AHA — sweeps away dulling dead cells with each use.
• Brightens and evens the look of skin. The Ordinary reports that in its research, two weeks of use boosted luminosity, evened the appearance of tone and smoothed texture.
• Buffers the acid with botanicals. Tasmanian pepperberry derivative helps offset acid-related irritation, while ginseng and aloe add radiance and soothing.
• Doubles as a scalp treatment. The brand notes it can also be used on the scalp, where its research showed reduced dryness.
• Clean formula basics. Per the brand: no parabens, sulfates, phthalates or mineral oil, and it's vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free.

How to use

1. Use in the evening, once a day at most.
2. After cleansing, soak a cotton pad and sweep it over face and neck, avoiding the eye area.
3. Don't rinse. Continue with your serums and moisturiser as usual.
4. Wear sunscreen daily. AHAs increase sun sensitivity — protect your skin during use and for a week after stopping.

Note: the Tasmanian pepperberry derivative is plant-derived and its colour shifts with the seasons — a slight colour variation in the liquid is normal, per the brand.
