NUDESTIX Intense Matte Lip + Cheek is one pencil doing three jobs — matte lipstick, lip liner and cheek blush. The pigment load is high and the texture is soft, so you get strong matte colour without the tight, drying feel that usually comes with it.

What it actually does

• Matte that stays soft. NUDESTIX describes the formula as soft and non-drying, which is the main thing separating it from a classic matte lipstick.
• Holds its line. The brand calls it non-feathering, so the pencil edge stays where you drew it instead of bleeding past the lip.
• Full coverage from pigment, not layers. It carries an intense pigment load, giving lips maximum smooth coverage in a pass or two.
• Long wear. The brand puts the longevity at up to six hours.
• Doubles as blush. The same pencil gives cheeks a soft matte flush, which keeps lip and cheek colour deliberately matched.
• Clean-leaning formula. No volatile cyclomethicones, gluten, preservatives or animal-derived ingredients, and no parabens, sulfates or phthalates.

How to use

1. Prime if your lips are dry. NUDESTIX recommends their Blur Pencil, sold separately, before this one for the smoothest application.
2. Outline, then fill. Draw the edge of the lip first, fill the rest in and press your lips together.
3. On cheeks: swipe lightly across the apples and blend outwards with your fingers before the matte sets.
4. Work quickly on the cheeks. A matte formula with this much pigment grips, so blend as you go rather than drawing both cheeks first.

Will it dry out my lips?

The brand's whole pitch is a matte that is not drying. If your lips are already flaky, NUDESTIX advises priming with their Blur Pencil first so the colour lays down evenly.

How long does it actually last?

Up to six hours, per NUDESTIX. Eating and drinking will shorten that, as with any lip colour, so expect to touch up the centre of the lip.

Is it hard to use as blush?

It takes a light hand. Swipe a thin line on the apple of the cheek and blend it out with your fingers straight away — the pigment is intense, so build from less.
