Lash Clash Extreme Volume Mascara

Lash Clash is YSL's volume mascara in its original, non-waterproof form: a massive brush, rich black pigment, and smudge-proof wear the brand rates at up to 24 hours. The formula is vegan, paraben-free and carries under one percent synthetic fragrance.

What it actually does

• Builds volume stroke by stroke. YSL describes the brush and formula as giving you a different level of volume from one swipe up to five — a quick lift after the first, noticeable length by the third, and a lifted, fanned lash with 200% more volume by the fifth.
• Deep, saturated colour. The pigment load is high, which is what makes the lash line read as solid rather than spidery.
• All-day hold. YSL rates it at up to 24 hours of smudge-proof wear.
• The brush does the work. Its size lets it reach the short lashes most wands skip — in YSL's self-assessment of 100 women, 93% said it caught even the shortest ones and 90% said it spread the formula evenly from root to tip. 96% said the wear reached 24 hours.
• Two moods, two shades. Black for a deep, intense eye; the brown for similar volume with a softer, more natural result.

How to use

1. Work from the base of the lash out to the tip for the fullest colour.
2. Zig-zag the wand horizontally as you move up — it fans the lashes apart and stops them clumping together.
3. Keep adding swipes until you hit the look you want; the effect stacks.
4. Remove with a cleansing micellar water — the anti-smudge formula needs it.

Black or brown?

Take 01 Black if you want the deepest, most graphic lash. Take 02 Uninhibited Brown if you want the same body but a softer everyday effect — YSL says the volume is comparable between the two.

Is it waterproof?

This one isn't. It is smudge-proof with up to 24-hour wear, but if you need water resistance, look at the waterproof Lash Clash instead.

How do I take it off?

Cleansing micellar water, as YSL advises. The anti-smudge formula is deliberately tenacious, so soak rather than scrub.

When will it arrive?
