Can I just use one side?

Yes. The cream on its own gives a dewy, sheer glow; the powder on its own gives a softer, diffused finish. The layered version is the most intense of the three.

Will it look heavy on bare skin?

The formulas are described as melting into skin, and the biomimetic pigments are there specifically to grip and look natural. Start with the cream dabbed lightly if you are wearing nothing else — you can always add the powder for more.
