What it actually does

• Covers the entire lid. Hourglass describes the brush as taking powder shadow across the whole lid, so your base colour goes on in one or two strokes instead of ten.
• Layers shades on top of each other. The brand lists layering as a distinct function, which is what lets you deepen a look without starting again.
• Blends seamlessly. Hourglass uses the word seamless about how it merges shadow — the point being no visible join between colours.
• Soft on the lid. The Taklon fibre is graded high by the brand and described as ultra-soft, which counts when the brush covers this much skin.
• Animal-hair free. Hourglass presents Taklon as PETA-approved, more hygienic than animal hair and suitable for people whose skin reacts to it.
• Takes cream too. Although it is framed around powder shadow, the brand states liquid and cream products can also be applied with it.

How to use

1. Sweep a neutral base shade across the full lid first to give later colours something to grip.
2. Press a second shade over the centre of the lid, keeping the brush flat.
3. Work in light back-and-forth passes to merge the two before the edges set.
4. Keep the heavier definition work for a smaller crease or domed brush — use this one for coverage.
5. Wipe it on a tissue between shades so colours stay clean.
6. To clean properly: mild soap, lukewarm water, a gentle wash, then dry it flat.

Is this the brush to start with?

If you own one eye brush, an all-over shadow brush is the most useful shape — it applies, layers and blends. You add crease and detail brushes once your looks get more complex.

Can it do the crease as well?

Loosely, yes, but it will spread colour wider than a crease brush would. Hourglass positions this one for the whole lid rather than for socket precision.

Is it suitable if I am allergic to animal hair?

That is one of the reasons the brand uses Taklon — it is offered as an option for animal-hair allergy sufferers, and the brush is vegan and cruelty-free.
