What it actually does

• Leaves a dewy flush, not a flat one. Pixi lists the finish as dewy — closer to skin looking naturally warm than to a powder blush sitting on top.
• Feels cool on contact. The brand credits the formula with a cooling, soothing effect, which comes from aloe barbadensis leaf juice high in the ingredient list.
• Adds light, not glitter. Mica is the ingredient Pixi names for natural-looking luminosity.
• Holds moisture at the skin. Sodium PCA is included to bind water to the skin.

How to use

1. Go on after base, before powder. Gel blush grips better on bare or lightly covered skin.
2. Dab a small amount onto the cheek. Start with less than you think — sheer builds, but gel sets fast.
3. Blend with fingertips immediately. Press and tap outward along the cheekbone.
4. Build in a second layer if you want more. Let the first one set first.

Tip: the same dab works on the lips or the bridge of the nose if you want the colour to look joined up.

Will it work over foundation?

It can, but gel blush is easiest on bare or lightly covered skin — a heavy base can lift as you blend. If you wear full coverage, apply this first and then set.

Is it alright for sensitive skin?

Pixi lists it as appropriate for every skin type and paraben-free, with aloe vera for soothing. As with anything new, patch test on the jaw if your skin is reactive.

Is it glittery?

The mica is there for luminosity rather than sparkle — Pixi describes the look as natural. It's a glow, not a shimmer topper.
