The INKEY List Retinol Serum Duo is two 30 ml bottles of the same beginner-friendly retinol serum. The formula is slow-release and deliberately gentle, aimed at early signs of ageing and hyperpigmentation with less of the irritation retinol is known for. If you already know retinol suits you, buying the pair saves you reordering mid-routine.
| Best for | First signs of ageing, fine lines, hyperpigmentation |
| Hero ingredient | Retinyl Acetate — a slow-release vitamin A derivative |
| Also inside | Squalene, an antioxidant that hydrates and soothes |
| Contents | 2 × Retinol Serum (30 ml each) |
| Level | Designed for retinol beginners |
| When to use | Evenings only — start 1–2 nights a week |
What it actually does
- Resurfaces gently. Retinyl Acetate is a vitamin A derivative, and the brand says it works by lifting surface cell turnover to improve how fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation look.
- Releases slowly on purpose. This form was chosen specifically as a milder route into anti-ageing retinol, which is what makes it a reasonable starting point.
- Buffers itself with squalene. A key antioxidant in the formula, included to hydrate and soothe while helping smooth how skin looks.
- Aims at pigmentation as well as lines. Both are named targets, so it's doing double duty on tone and texture.
- Comes with real guidance. INKEY is explicit about frequency, layering order, and what not to combine it with — worth following rather than improvising.
How to use
- Evenings only. Retinol Serum belongs in your PM routine and nowhere else.
- Cleanse, then hydrate with a Hyaluronic Acid Serum before the retinol goes on.
- Apply a pea-sized amount and massage it into face and neck. Around the eyes, the brand points you to its Retinol Eye Cream instead — that skin is more fragile.
- Moisturise after. Any moisturiser works; INKEY suggests the Bio-Active Ceramide Moisturizer if barrier support and early ageing are your concerns.
- Start at one or two nights a week and build up only if your skin takes it well. Use it on alternate nights rather than consecutively.
- SPF every morning. The final step of your AM routine, without exception.
Layering tips from the brand: go thinnest texture to thickest, and leave a minute between layers so nothing pills. Sensitive skin can apply Niacinamide before the retinol to take the edge off. Keep it away from AHAs (glycolic, lactic, mandelic, alpha hydroxy, apple cider vinegar), BHAs (beta hydroxy acid, C-50 Blemish Treatment) and PHA toner in the same session.
Is it right for you?
Yes, if you…
- Are new to retinol and want a gentler entry point
- Are seeing early fine lines or wrinkles
- Have patches of hyperpigmentation
- Already use this serum and want a backup bottle
Think twice if you…
- Have deep wrinkles or post-acne scarring — the brand points those to its 1% retinol Scar, Mark and Wrinkle Solution
- Rely on daily acid exfoliation you're not willing to reschedule
- Have very sensitive skin, unless you layer Niacinamide underneath
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding — check with your doctor before using retinol
Questions
How often should I start using it?
One to two nights a week at first, increasing gradually only if your skin tolerates more. The brand also recommends alternate nights rather than back-to-back evenings.
Can I use it with my acid exfoliant?
Not at the same time. INKEY lists AHAs — glycolic, lactic, mandelic, alpha hydroxy, apple cider vinegar — plus BHAs and PHA toner as things to keep separate from this serum. Alternate the nights instead.
Can I put it around my eyes?
The brand steers you to its Retinol Eye Cream for that area, since eye skin is more delicate than the rest of the face.
Why does my skincare pill when I layer?
Usually order and timing. Apply thinnest to thickest, and give each layer about a minute to settle before the next one — that's INKEY's own tip for avoiding pilling.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery takes 3 to 21 working days, depending on availability. Stock on hand ships at the short end; items sourced for your order take longer. Working days exclude weekends and official holidays.
How can I pay?
Credit card, debit card, Instapay and mobile wallets — no cash on delivery.
What if a bottle arrives damaged or expired?
Get in touch within 1 day of delivery with a photo. Returns apply to defective, damaged or expired items only; after we verify, the refund returns to your original payment method within 15–30 days.
