Tower 28 SOS FaceGuard SPF 30 PA+++ is a mineral sunscreen built around the two complaints people have about them: stinging eyes and breakouts. It uses non-nano zinc oxide in a whipped, creamy base that Tower 28 says behaves more like a light moisturiser than a sunscreen.
| Skin types | Normal, dry, combination and oily — sensitive and acne-prone in mind |
| Protection | Mineral SPF 30, PA+++, broad spectrum |
| Texture | Whipped cream, non-greasy, natural finish |
| Key ingredients | Non-nano zinc oxide · ceramide blend · allantoin · alpha bisabolol |
| Free from | Alcohol · oil · fragrance · vegan · cruelty-free · non-comedogenic |
What it actually does
- Mineral protection, gently delivered. Non-nano zinc oxide gives the broad-spectrum cover and is the part Tower 28 flags as kind to sensitive skin.
- Ceramides for the barrier. A ceramide blend supports the skin barrier and helps it hold onto moisture, which is why the texture reads as moisturiser-like.
- Two calming agents. Allantoin and alpha bisabolol are both in there to settle skin down.
- Designed to live under makeup. The brand states it does not pill when you layer over it, and the finish stays natural rather than shiny.
- Non-acnegenic and non-comedogenic. Alcohol-free, oil-free, fragrance-free and ophthalmologist tested on top of that.
- Three organisations have accepted it. Tower 28 states it has been granted seals of acceptance by the National Eczema Association, the National Rosacea Society and the National Psoriasis Foundation, each of which clinically tests for sensitivity, irritation and toxicity.
- What the testing reported. An outside lab surveyed 30 users for Tower 28, reactive skin included in that group. Pilling was absent for 96% of them; the same proportion got through regular use without breaking out. Eye stinging scored best of all — nobody on the panel reported any. Small panel; individual results vary.
How to use
- A quarter-sized amount spread across the whole face, every morning.
- Top it up through the day as your exposure requires.
Is it right for you?
Yes, if your skin is…
- Sensitive, reactive or prone to eczema and rosacea flare-ups
- Acne-prone and easily congested by sunscreen
- Dry — dryness is the listed concern this one addresses
- Usually made to water by chemical filters
Think twice if you…
- Want SPF 50 rather than 30 for long days outdoors
- Prefer the weightless feel of a chemical sunscreen
- Need water resistance for swimming or heavy training
Questions
Will it sting my eyes?
That is the specific thing this formula was built to avoid. In the brand's 30-person test, every participant agreed it did not burn their eyes, and it is ophthalmologist tested.
Does it pill under makeup?
Tower 28 states it is designed not to, and 96% of the test group agreed they experienced no pilling when layering over it.
Is it safe for acne-prone skin?
It is made for exactly that — non-acnegenic, non-comedogenic, oil-free and alcohol-free, with 96% of the consumer panel agreeing regular use did not break them out.
Is SPF 30 enough for Egypt's sun?
SPF 30 with PA+++ is solid daily protection, but the amount you apply and how often you reapply matter more than the number. Use a quarter-sized amount each morning and reapply as needed through the day.
