Glow Recipe Strawberry Smooth BHA + AHA Salicylic Acid Serum is a lightweight acid serum for skin that breaks out and looks congested. Glow Recipe builds it around a 10 percent acid complex but frames it as soothing as well as clarifying — hydration is part of the formula, not an afterthought.

What it actually does

• Clears out what blocks pores. Three jobs are credited to the 10% Clarity Acid Complex: softening how lines and raised, bumpy patches read on the surface; shedding the layer of spent cells sitting on top; and reducing the congestion that turns into blemishes.
• Two acids doing different jobs. Inside that complex sit 2% salicylic acid and 1% mandelic acid, there to decongest, clarify, soothe and help head off future breakouts.
• Strawberry on oil and tone. Listed as helping cut excess oil, exfoliate, and level out how even the skin looks.
• Hyaluronic acid to keep it comfortable. Capable of holding as much as a thousand times its own weight in moisture, it keeps skin looking plump while the acids work.
• What the clinical studies reported. On 34 participants after four weeks, Glow Recipe records every one of them showing significant improvement in how fine lines and wrinkles looked. How to use

1. Before your moisturiser, press out one or two pumps.
2. Pat it gently onto slightly damp skin — face and neck — until it has fully sunk in.
3. Twice a day, morning and evening.
4. Sunscreen is not optional. During daylight hours, finish with SPF once your moisturiser is on.

Recycling: Glow Recipe runs a no-waste programme with TerraCycle. You can rinse and recycle the bottle, the pump top and the pump straw at home; the cap and the pump with its spring are sent on to TerraCycle via a recycling envelope you request from the brand.

Can I really use it twice a day?

That is the brand's instruction — daily, morning and evening. If your skin is new to acids, starting once a day and building up is the sensible route.

Do I need sunscreen with it?

Yes. The instructions say to follow with SPF after your moisturiser during the day, which is standard and necessary whenever you are exfoliating.

Is it too strong for dry skin?
