The Kissu Lip Mask

Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask is a jelly-textured treatment for lips that have gone dry and flaky. It works whether you leave it on through the day or sleep in it, and the goal is the same either way: fuller, smoother, softer lips rather than a quick slick of shine that wears off in an hour.

What it actually does

• Treats dryness and flaking. Japanese peach extract is the repair ingredient Tatcha highlights, credited with reviving damaged lips and calming irritation.
• Smooths the surface. A blend of three rose extracts shields against dryness and, per the brand, visibly evens lips out.
• Seals moisture in. Japanese camellia oil (tsubaki) locks hydration down and brings a vitamin set — A, B, D, E — alongside omegas 3, 6 and 9 — Tatcha notes it carries more oleic acid than olive oil.
• Plumps and restores fullness, which is how the brand positions it against fine lines and uneven lip texture.
• Double duty. Thick layer at night as a mask, thin layer by day under or over colour.
• Texture: a gel-jelly, not a waxy stick.

The idea has history behind it: Tatcha traces the mask to a Japanese practice of crushing peach seeds into oils to mend dry, cracked lips, part of a long tradition of fresh fruit and botanical treatments.

From a brand-commissioned independent clinical study run on 40 women. One night in: soothed, soft, supple lips for 95% of them, deep moisture for 92%, and improved plumpness across all 40. A week in: deep repair reported by 92%, firmer and pillowy-looking lips by 90%, and overall improvement across the whole group. Can I wear it with lipstick?
