They're Real! Longwearing lengthening & lifting mascara

They're Real! is the mascara that made Benefit's reputation for lashes. The brush is the trick: staggered bristles dig in right at the root to push length and volume, while a domed tip with fine precision bristles lifts, defines and curls the smallest lashes most brushes skip entirely.

What it actually does

• Lengthens and volumises from the base. The uneven bristle layout grips close to the lash line, which is where extra length and thickness actually come from.
• Reaches the tiny lashes. The domed tip and its precision bristles are there to define and curl the short hairs in the corners.
• Separates instead of clumping. Benefit describes the jet-black, glossy formula as long-wearing and resistant to smudging, clumping and drying out.
• Brand-reported panel feedback. In Benefit's consumer panel survey, 94% saw dramatic length plus volume, 94% saw visible lift, 90% saw curl from base to tip and 100% reported long wear. These are self-reported numbers from the brand's own panel.

How to use

1. Go sideways first. Hold the wand horizontally and wiggle it left to right while moving from root to tip — that's the volume and length pass.
2. Then go upright. Turn the wand vertical and stroke upwards to curl the lashes and fan them apart.
3. Build as much as you like. Benefit says to layer generously for a bigger finish.
4. Want more curl? The brand's tip is to use Roller Lash underneath for lift, then put They're Real! over it.

What makes the brush different?

Does it clump if I layer it?

Benefit says the formula is built to resist clumping, smudging and drying out, and recommends layering generously for a fuller result.

Should I buy this or Roller Lash?

They do different jobs. This one is the lengthening and volumising mascara; Roller Lash is the curling and lifting one. Benefit's suggested combination is Roller Lash first, then this on top.
