Benefit They're Real! Tinted Primer is a mink-brown lash primer that does two jobs at once. Worn alone it tints lashes a soft brown for a natural, barely-done look; worn under mascara it preps the lashes so the colour on top has something to grip.

What it actually does

• Tints lashes mink-brown. A subtle brown rather than a hard black, which is why it suits a no-makeup makeup face.
• Adds length. Benefit says it boosts how long the lashes look, even used on its own.
• Primes for mascara. Its other role is as a base layer underneath your mascara when you want the fuller effect.
• Lets you dial the drama up or down. Alone it stays understated; layered, it becomes the first step of a bigger lash look.

How to use

1. Sweep from root to tip. Start at the lash base and pull the wand through to the ends.
2. Stop there for a natural look. On its own, the mink-brown tint is the whole finish.
3. Or layer mascara over it. Add your usual mascara on top when you want extra length and definition.
